2020 Census: Your Community is counting on you!
“Shape your future. START HERE.”
The United States Census 2020 will be here before we know it and your participation is vital!
Census Day is April 1, 2020.
Please make sure to take the survey as your information is not only critical to our community, it is the law. It is also confidential and protected under Title 13 of the U.S. Code. Counting each person one time and in the right place is the goal.
In 1790, the United States began conducting a census of the population and housing in order to determine how many people lived here and where. It has been conducted every 10 years since then. According to the U.S. Constitution, Article 1, Section 2, mandates the population totals from Arizona will determine the number of seats we will have in the House of Representatives. Arizona will also use the totals to redraw the legislative districts.
This census will be done a little differently than in the past as it will be electronic, versus every home receiving a surveyor at the door.
What are we at the Town of Sahuarita doing to prepare for the Census survey?
The Town has formed a Complete Count Committee (CCC) led by the Mayor and comprised of trusted leaders from multiple sectors in the community, including elected officials from local and state governments, the school district, faith-based, non-profits, media, local businesses, Pima County and even residents like you.
What is a CCC?
A CCC is a volunteer committee established by tribal, state, and local governments and community leaders or organizations to increase awareness and motivate residents to respond to the 2020 Census. CCCs serve as state and local “census ambassador” groups that play an integral part in ensuring a complete and accurate count in their community in the 2020 Census. Success of the census depends on community involvement at every level.
The CCC will assist with education and outreach to the community at large and to hard-to-reach populations about the importance of the Census and why residents must participate. Many organizations will be making computers available for residents to complete the census survey while at that location. CCC members will also make themselves available to assist with accessing the electronic survey.
The Town of Sahuarita has formed a Complete Count Committee to help focus efforts locally. However, we are also partnering with Pima Association of Governments (PAG) through their regional awareness campaign “Count me in!” In other words, PAG will be leading the efforts across the Pima County region to get the word out through various marketing mechanisms. The Town’s CCC will extend that message locally to the community.
