This is the February 11, 2014 construction update for the Sahuarita Road Phase II Project.
This week, within the Segment 2A and 2B Projects, crews are preparing the remaining portion of Sahuarita Road, between La Villita Road and Nogales Highway, for final signage, concrete vertical curbs, and asphalt pavement. Both of the new bridges are open to vehicular traffic while the final safety railing installations and aesthetic treatments are being scheduled for completion. Ongoing work in the realigned Nogales Highway includes the installation of a new landscape irrigation system.
In January 2014, the contractor also started work on the Segment 2C Project, which is the final portion of the Sahuarita Road Phase II project between Nogales Highway and the Eastern Town Limits (just west of Country Club Road). Ongoing work in this area includes relocation of existing utilities, clearing of the roadway right-of-way, and subgrade preparation in advance of the new roadway construction. A temporary lane shift is in place near the intersection of Azatlan Avenue to allow for construction of a new underground pipelines.
As part of the ongoing construction efforts, drivers should be aware of all traffic control devices/signage and all speed limit reductions, as large equipment may be working near the roadways.
A summary of the anticipated short-term (2-3 week) construction activities can be seen in the February 11, 2014 Look Ahead Schedule
