This is the March 11, 2014 construction update for the Sahuarita Road Phase II Project.
This week, within the Segment 2A and 2B Projects, crews will be painting the new Santa Cruz River bridge structure and working on the new Sahuarita Road landscape irrigation system. Both new Sahuarita Road bridges at the Santa Cruz River are open to vehicular traffic and final paving (with rubberized asphalt) is scheduled for the last week of March, 2014. Remaining bridge work includes the installation of pedestrian safety railing on the westbound bridge - and as such the westbound bridge sidewalk is closed until completion. Pedestrians should use the eastbound bridge as an alternative route. Work along the realigned Nogales Highway will pause for a few weeks until the planting of new landscaping begins later this spring.
The Segment 2C Project, is the final portion of the Sahuarita Road Phase II project between Nogales Highway and the Eastern Town Limits (just west of Country Club Road). Ongoing work in this area includes relocation of existing utilities, an outlet extension on the existing concrete box culvert (west of Delgado Road), and the hauling/placement of fill material within the new Sahuarita Road eastbound lanes. As part of the earthwork haul, drivers should be aware of large trucks entering and exiting Sahuarita Road between Nogales Highway and Santa Rita Road
As part of the ongoing construction efforts, drivers should be aware of all traffic control devices/signage and all speed limit reductions, as large equipment may be working near the roadways.
A summary of the anticipated short-term (2-3 week) construction activities can be seen in the March 18, 2014 Look Ahead Schedule
