This is the April 22, 2014 construction update for the Sahuarita Road Phase II Project.
This week, within the Segment 2A and 2B Projects, crews will finish painting the new Santa Cruz River bridge structure (weather permitting). Both new Sahuarita Road bridges at the Santa Cruz River are open to vehicular traffic. Other remaining work includes the installation of pedestrian safety railing on the westbound bridge - and as such - the westbound bridge sidewalk is closed until completion. Pedestrians should use the eastbound bridge as an alternative route. Landscaping and irrigation installations along Sahuarita Road and the realigned Nogales Highway will pause for a few weeks until the planting of new landscaping begins later this spring.
The Segment 2C Project, is the final portion of the Sahuarita Road Phase II project between Nogales Highway and the Eastern Town Limits (just west of Country Club Road). Ongoing work in this area includes relocation of existing utilities, an outlet extension on the existing concrete box culvert (west of Delgado Road), the construction of a new concrete box culvert (east of Santa Rita Road, and the continued hauling and placement of new fill material within the new Sahuarita Road eastbound lanes. As part of the earthwork haul, drivers should be aware of large trucks entering and exiting Sahuarita Road between Nogales Highway and Santa Rita Road.
In the area between Santa Rita Road and Delgado Road a temporary construction zone lane shift has been constructed. Both traffic lanes have been shifted to temporary pavement along the northern portion of the existing roadway, to open up additional construction areas within the future eastbound lanes.
As part of the ongoing construction efforts, drivers should be aware of all traffic control devices/signage and all speed limit reductions, as large equipment may be working near the roadways.
A summary of the anticipated short-term (2-3 week) construction activities can be seen in the April 22, 2014 Look Ahead Schedule
