This is the May 13, 2014 construction update for the Sahuarita Road Phase II Project.
This week, within the Segment 2A and 2B Projects, crews have begun installing the landscaping along Sahuarita Road and the realigned Nogales Highway. The installation of pedestrian safety railing on the westbound bridge is scheduled to begin in June. Until the railings are completed, the westbound bridge sidewalk remains closed to pedestrians. Pedestrians should use the eastbound bridge as an alternative route.
The Segment 2C Project, is the final portion of the Sahuarita Road Phase II project between Nogales Highway and the Eastern Town Limits (just west of Country Club Road). Ongoing work in this area includes relocation of existing utilities, an outlet extension on the existing concrete box culvert (west of Delgado Road), the construction of a new concrete box culvert (east of Santa Rita Road, and the excavation of a new drainage channel along the south-side of Sahuarita Road, just east of Santa Rita Road. Drivers should be aware of large trucks and equipment entering and exiting Sahuarita Road between Nogales Highway and Santa Rita Road.
In the area between Santa Rita Road and Delgado Road a temporary construction zone lane shift has been constructed. Both traffic lanes have been shifted to temporary pavement along the northern portion of the existing roadway.
As part of the ongoing construction efforts, drivers should be aware of all traffic control devices/signage and all speed limit reductions, as large equipment may be working near the roadways.
A summary of the anticipated short-term (2-3 week) construction activities can be seen in the May 13, 2014 Look Ahead Schedule
