After the Memorial Day weekend, the Town of Sahuarita will be improving the existing intersection of La Villita Road, Rancho Sahuarita Boulevard, and Camino Lago Azul. The project will improve traffic operations during peak hours of vehicular traffic, as the existing 4-way stop intersection currently experiences significant delays and queuing - particularly in the morning peak hour.
The primary intersection improvements include a new traffic signal (replacing the existing 4-way stop) and a new south bound right turn lane (from Camino Lago Azul to westbound Rancho Sahuarita Blvd). The combination of a new traffic signal and the additional southbound right turn lane will improve the morning peak period, while maintaining a high level of service the rest of the day.
Construction activities will begin on Tuesday, May 27th 2014. The intersection will remain open to traffic, but minor disruptions should be anticipated as travel lanes will be shifted within the vicinity of the existing intersection to allow for saw-cutting, excavations, and installations of conduits within the existing pavement area. Substantial completion of the construction project is anticipated prior to Sahuarita Unified School District (SUSD) classes starting back up in August 2014.
As part of the ongoing construction efforts, drivers should be aware of all traffic control devices/signage and all speed limit reductions, as large equipment may be working near the roadways.
Future updates will be provided as construction progresses - check back later or use the "Notify Me" tool to sign-up for automatic notifications pertaining to the Town’s construction projects.
