This is the September 30, 2014 construction update for the Sahuarita Road Phase II Project.
The Segment 2A (Sahuarita Road) and 2B (Nogales Highway) Projects were substantially completed in August 2014.
Within the Segment 2C Project, specifically between the UPRR tracks and Delgado Road, all Sahuarita Road traffic has been shifted to the new eastbound lanes. This traffic shift is allowing for the construction of the future westbound lanes.
Ongoing work includes the installation of new of new westbound concrete curbs, extensions of existing concrete box culverts near Delgado Road and Santa Rita Road, and installation of drainage culverts under the new driveways.
Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) crews have started work on a temporary at-grade railroad crossing, just north of Sahuarita Road. Once UPRR crews are finished with their work, Town contractors will pave a detour route and all Sahuarita Road traffic will be shifted to the temporary railroad crossing. This temporary lane shift at the railroad tracks is anticipated to be in place on Monday, October 6, 2014. Moving traffic to the temporary detour will allow UPRR to begin work on the permanent at-grade railroad crossing needed to facilitate the new 4-lane Sahuarita Road.
As part of the ongoing construction efforts, drivers should be aware of all traffic control devices/signage and all speed limit reductions, as large equipment may be working near the roadways.
A summary of the anticipated short-term (2-3 week) construction activities can be seen in the September 30, 2014 Look Ahead Schedule
