[ARCHIVED] Sahuarita Road Construction Update – Tuesday 11/25/14

This is the November 25, 2014 construction update for the Sahuarita Road Phase II Project.

The Segment 2A (Sahuarita Road) and 2B (Nogales Highway) Projects were substantially completed in August 2014.

Within the Segment 2C Project, specifically between the UPRR tracks and Delgado Road, all Sahuarita Road traffic has been shifted to the new travel lanes, separated by a new raised median.

Major ongoing work this week includes the installation of new concrete box culvert (east of Delgado Road), new sidewalks/access ramps, as well as new landscaping and irrigation system.

At the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) crossing, all Sahuarita Road traffic has been detoured to a temporary railroad crossing just north of the existing Sahuarita Road. Both directions of travel along Sahuarita Road (westbound and eastbound) remain open, but minor delays may be encountered at the temporary detour. This temporary lane shift at the railroad tracks is allowing for construction of a new at-grade railroad crossing for the new 4-lane divided Sahuarita Road.

Near the intersection of Delgado Road new fill material is being hauled in and placed for the widened Sahuarita Road. In order to build the new intersection, a temporary closure of Delgado Road is anticipated for Monday, December 1st through Wednesday, December 3rd. Alternative routes should be used to access Sahuarita Road (such as Santa Rita Rd, Country Club Rd, Davis Rd, and El Toro Rd). Message boards and detour signs will be installed to remind drivers of the temporary closure and alternate routes.

As part of the ongoing construction efforts, drivers should be aware of all traffic control devices/signage and all speed limit reductions, as large equipment may be working near the roadways.

A summary of the anticipated short-term (2-3 week) construction activities can be seen in the November 25, 2014 Look Ahead Schedule.
