The Town of Sahuarita Finance Department has received two awards for excellence in financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The Town’s Annual Adopted Budget for Fiscal Year 2015 received Special Performance Measures Recognition from the GFOA – a first for the Town. For the 9th straight year, the Town received the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting.
“We’re pleased and honored to be recognized by GFOA for our fiscal efforts,” said Town Finance Director A.C. Marriotti, CPA. “This is the first year we have received special recognition for our performance measures, tied directly to the Town’s Strategic Plan.”
Elected officials and staff began working on a strategic plan in December 2013 to guide future decision-making and resource management. The Sahuarita Strategic Plan 2014-2017 was adopted on April 28, 2014.
To receive the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, a governmental body must produce a comprehensive budget document that meets criteria as a policy document, an operations guide, a financial plan and a communications tool. The award is valid for one year only.
“Creating a truly useful, understandable and transparent budget requires a team effort by elected officials and staff,” Marriotti said.
The GFOA is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 18,000 appointed and elected local and state government officials. Its Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
