[ARCHIVED] Pima Mine Rd Bridge at Santa Cruz River Construction Update - Tuesday 05/05/15

This is the May 5, 2015 construction update for the Pima Mine Road Bridge at Santa Cruz River Project.

Beginning May 1, 2015, the Town of Sahuarita began replacing the Pima Mine Road Bridge across the Santa Cruz River, as part of its 5-year Capital Improvement Plan. Major construction is anticipated to last approximately 14 months, with completion anticipated in August 2016. Pima Mine Road is anticipated to remain open to vehicular traffic throughout construction, although intermittent lane shifts, flaggers, reduced speed limits and/or other temporary traffic control measures will be implemented within the construction zone.

This week crews will be mobilizing onto the site and begin removing the north-side railing on the existing bridge. Removal of the north one-half of the existing bridge may begin as soon as next week, which will allow for the installation of new pier and abutment shafts that will support a new bridge.

Throughout the project limits, occasional/temporary construction zone lane shifts and speed limit reductions are in place. As part of the ongoing construction efforts, drivers should be aware of all traffic control devices/signage and all speed limit reductions, as large equipment may be working near the roadways.

A summary of the anticipated short-term (2-3 week) construction activities can be seen in the May 5, 2015 Look Ahead Schedule.
