The Town of Sahuarita is currently improving Sahuarita Road between Interstate-19 and the eastern Town Limits as part of its 5-year Capital Improvement Plan.
The Sahuarita Road improvement project was split into two major phases for Design and Construction.
Sahuarita Road Phase I improvements have been completed between Interstate 19 and La Villita Road and included widening to a 4-lane divided roadway with bicycle lanes, sidewalks, drainage improvements, low maintenance landscape, a pedestrian underpass, and 4 signalized intersections.
Sahuarita Road Phase II includes improvements between La Villita Road and the eastern Town Limits. The Phase II project improvements will include a 4-lane divided roadway, bicycle lanes, sidewalks, drainage improvements, low maintenance landscape, twin 2-lane bridges over the Santa Cruz River, relocation and signalization of the Nogales Hwy Intersection, and new crossings at the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Design and construction of the Phase II project has been divided into 3 geographical segments.
Project Segment 2A includes improvements to Sahuarita Road between La Villita Road and the realigned Nogales Highway. Project Segment 2B includes a new alignment of Nogales Highway on the North and South side of Sahuarita Road. Project Segment 2C includes the portion of Sahuarita Road between the new Nogales Highway and the eastern Town limits.
Project Segments 2A and 2B are currently under construction.
Project Segment 2C Map is at 95% design level with construction anticipated to start upon completion of Project Segments 2A and 2B.
