[ARCHIVED] Quail Creek Dog Park to be temporarily closed

Local dog owners have been enjoying the convenience of the Town’s second off leash dog area at Quail Creek-Veterans Municipal Park to take their pets for exercise and enjoyment. In order to keep up the park’s needed maintenance, it is necessary to close down to the public on an annual basis just like the Anamax Bark Park so the turf can adequately regenerate. The optimum time for closure is during the summer growing season. The Town Parks & Recreation staff continues to work diligently to keep the newest off leash dog area in excellent condition, but heavy use makes upkeep challenging due to wear and tear on the turf and fixtures, as well as the problems that dog urine poses for turf.

Please note the following closure dates: Quail Creek-Veterans Municipal Park Off Leash Dog Area will be closed beginning Monday, July 8, 2013 and will reopen on or before Monday, August 19, 2013 for the regeneration of turf and scheduled maintenance of the off leash dog facility for approximately 6 weeks. Other areas of Quail Creek-Veterans Municipal Park will not be affected during this period.

The Town’s other off leash dog area, Anamax Bark Park, is located at 17501 S. Camino De Las Quintas and will be open during this time. Dog owners are encouraged to bring their pets to this location while the turf at the Quail Creek-Veterans Municipal Dog Park is regenerating. The Town of Sahuarita Parks & Recreation Department thanks dog owners for their patience and for their tremendous support of the facility. For more information, please contact Parks & Recreation staff at the Anamax Recreation Center (520) 445-7850 or Town Hall (520) 822-8896.
