As part of the ongoing Sahuarita Road Phase II – Segment 2B – roadway improvement project, the Town of Sahuarita has constructed a 2-mile realignment of Nogales Highway (approximately one-mile on each side of Sahuarita Road). As part of the realignment efforts, a new signalized traffic intersection at Sahuarita Road was constructed west of its original location (moved closer to the Santa Cruz River). Early next week crews will be installing the final pavement markings along the 2-mile realignment of Nogales Highway.
On Wednesday, August 14th (weather permitting) the Town intends to move all traffic to the new Sahuarita Road/Nogales Highway signalized intersection and the new/realigned portion of Nogales Highway. Upon opening of the new Nogales Highway, all northbound and southbound traffic will be routed to the new roadway alignment, i.e. the existing intersection configuration will be closed to traffic and access prohibited.
As part of the ongoing construction efforts, drivers should continue to be aware of all traffic control devices/signage and all speed limit reductions, as large equipment may still be working near the shoulders of the existing roadways.
