The Sahuarita Police Department has spent significant time and resources working with multiple law enforcement agencies, SUSD, and other organizations to investigate what is believed to be two separate, but recent threats directed towards multiple SUSD schools. The threats have occurred over the last few days.
The threats were made via social media and included a cartoon style picture with threats about shooting up a school, pictures of actual firearms, and statements about shooting hundreds of students. These cases are significant and are treated as such. They often reveal felony violations.
As of early this morning, we have made an arrest in the second case; involving a picture of actual firearms and comments about shooting hundreds of students. The person arrested was a teenage juvenile who has been charged with both felony and misdemeanor charges of Making Terrorist Threat, Interference/Disruption of an Educational Institution and Use of Electronic Device to Threaten.
Further investigation will continue as we work to ensure that all responsible parties who may have been involved in this or any other threats are held accountable.
We appreciate all of the teamwork demonstrated by our local and federal partners and the SUSD staff.
If you have any information that can assist in these cases, we ask that you call 911 or the SPD tip line, 344-7847.
