MEDIA RELEASE
Precautionary Measures in Place for COVID-19
SAHUARITA, Ariz. — The Town of Sahuarita is putting precautionary measures in place to mitigate the danger to public health posed by the COVID-19 (Corona Virus), which was recently discovered present in unincorporated Pima County. In keeping with the social distancing policies recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the town is cancelling any permitted events for gatherings of 50 or more people through April 1. The following town-sponsored/managed events are cancelled:
(March 14) Sahuarita Creative Arts Festival
(March 19) Tunes Around Town at Anamax Bark Park
(March 28) Fiesta Sahuarita
“We are taking this opportunity to work together with our regional partners in the interest of public safety,” said Sahuarita Mayor Tom Murphy. “We must practice due diligence for our most vulnerable communities and do what we can to prevent the spread of this illness. We ask that our residents take precautions and remain courteous to each other. It’s our generosity and kindness that makes Sahuarita such a great place to live.”
The town will continue to monitor the situation in partnership with surrounding municipalities and public service organizations, including the Pima County Department of Health, in order to make decisions about any events beyond April 1.
Sahuarita Town Hall will remain open for business as usual, but those who are able are encouraged to conduct any business with the town online or by phone wherever possible.
Parks-related Cancellations
Because we anticipate that some in our community may wish to practice social distancing and not attend previously scheduled classes through our parks programs (or perhaps cancel a ramada reservation or rental of a parks facility) we are providing for a full refund of any cancellation made in the next 30 days, through April 11.
