SAHUARITA, Ariz. — The Town of Sahuarita Parks and Recreation Department is asking for volunteers to conduct an inventory of existing trees in the town’s public parks, right-of-ways, and municipal grounds. Volunteers can assist with the tree inventory on one or more inventory dates.
Children as young as 13 may volunteer, but 13 and 14-year olds must be accompanied by an adult. There is an associated hands-on training that is mandatory for volunteers, and registration is required to participate in both training and inventory.
Completing a tree inventory will help the town assess the number and variety of existing trees, as well as the age and health of those trees. The study will help to inform future decisions and the development of a tree management plan. The tree inventory is made possible by a Community Challenge Grant from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.
Training Date: August 29 from 8 a.m. to noon
Inventory Dates: Sept. 12, 19, and 26
