[ARCHIVED] Sahuarita Road Construction Update – Tuesday 01/07/14

This is the January 7, 2013 construction update for the Sahuarita Road Phase II project, specifically Project Segments 2A and 2B.

This week, within the Segment 2A Project, crews are constructing the remaining portions of the sidewalks and safety barrier walls on the future westbound bridge. Along the river banks, crews are painting the barricade railing along the top edge of the new soil cement bank protection.

The Segment 2B project – Nogales Highway Realignment – is approximately two-miles in length, roughly one-mile North and one-mile South of Sahuarita Road. All northbound and southbound Nogales Highway traffic is now using the new alignment and can access Sahuarita Road at the new signalized intersection. As part of the new Nogales Highway opening, the old intersection configuration was closed to traffic and public access is now prohibited. Ongoing work in the 2B project includes the installation of a landscape irrigation system.

With the start of 2014, the contractor has also begun work on the Segment 2C Project, which is the final portion of the Sahuarita Road Phase II project, and includes the area between Nogales Highway and the Eastern Town Limits (just west of Country Club Road). Ongoing work in this area includes relocation of existing utilities and clearing of the roadway right-of-way in advance of the new roadway construction.

As part of the ongoing construction efforts, drivers should be aware of all traffic control devices/signage and all speed limit reductions, as large equipment may be working near the roadways.

A summary of the anticipated short-term (2-3 week) construction activities can be seen in the January 7, 2014 Look Ahead Schedule
