[ARCHIVED] Power outages and downed power lines near La Canada and Duval Mine Road

UPDATE: 07/26/2021

Power has been restored to most TEP customers in the areas referred to in this original post; however, repair work is still underway requiring the road closures--on La Canada (at Duval Mine Road) and Old Nogales Highway (north of Quail Creek-Veterans Memorial Park)--to continue.

Limited access to homes and some businesses along La Canada is available via Sahuarita Road and traveling South. Quail Creek is still only accessible via Madera Highlands Parkway.

Access to homes and businesses South and West of the Duval Mine Road and La Canada intersection is only available by approaching on La Canada from the south. Drivers may also use Mission Road or Continental Road and approach on Duval Mine Road from the southwest.

************

Powerful thunderstorms overnight into the early morning of July 23 have taken down at least 48 power poles. There are presently many customers without power in the area near intersection of La Canada and Duval Mine Road, and north on La Canada from Duval Mine Road to West Placita Tecolote Mesa.

The affected area extends as far east as Old Nogales Highway. Please see the TEP power outage map linked below.

Residents in this area may need to shelter in place. Town of Sahuarita Police and Public Works Department are working to direct traffic in the area; however, restoration work may require some roads in the area to be temporarily closed.

There is also a road closure on Old Nogales Highway near Quail Creek-Veterans Municipal Park. Residents in Quail Creek are currently only able to exit at Madera Highlands Parkway and travel south.
