This is the February 4, 2014 construction update for the Sahuarita Road Phase II project, specifically Project Segments 2A and 2B.
This week, within the Segment 2A Project, crews are preparing for construction of the remaining safety railing and aesthetic treatments for on the new westbound bridge.
On Thursday, February 6, 2014, one lane of westbound traffic will be routed onto the new bridge. This will allow crews to finalize the earthwork and concrete median curbs between La Villita Road and Nogales Highway.
The Segment 2B project – Nogales Highway Realignment – is approximately two-miles in length, roughly one-mile North and one-mile South of Sahuarita Road. Ongoing work in the 2B project includes the installation of a new landscape irrigation system.
In January 2014, the contractor started work on the Segment 2C Project, which is the final portion of the Sahuarita Road Phase II project between Nogales Highway and the Eastern Town Limits (just west of Country Club Road). Ongoing work in this area includes relocation of existing utilities, clearing of the roadway right-of-way, and subgrade preparation in advance of the new roadway construction. A minor/temporary lane shift is anticipated in the area of Azatlan Avenue to allow for construction of a new irrigation pipeline.
As part of the ongoing construction efforts, drivers should be aware of all traffic control devices/signage and all speed limit reductions, as large equipment may be working near the roadways.
A summary of the anticipated short-term (2-3 week) construction activities can be seen in the February 4, 2014 Look Ahead Schedule
